To determine your eligibility for graduate scholarships, please provide the necessary information. Indicate all scholarship categories for which you meet the specified criteria.
Graduate scholarships are made possible through the generous support of donors and foundations. Eligibility for endowed scholarships is determined by criteria established by the donors. Applicants must be admitted to or currently enrolled in a graduate program to be considered for scholarship awards.
You will be notified of your application status approximately two weeks following its completion.
Donald D. Hammill Special Education Scholarship Fund: The Hammill Scholarship was established by the Donald D. Hammill Foundation. The fund provides support for graduate students pursuing degrees in special education.
Dr. Orville Keith Hamilton Scholarship Fund: This fund was established by Betty May Kovacs Hamilton ’56 in memory of her husband, Dr. Orville Keith Hamilton ’58. To honor Dr. Hamilton’s career in medicine at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Del., the scholarship provides financial support to undergraduate students from Delaware with demonstrated financial need and academic promise who have declared their intent to pursue a medical profession. As a second preference, awards may be made to graduate students enrolled in the College of Medical Science with demonstrated financial need and academic promise.
William Randolph Hearst Endowment for African-American Students: The Hearst Scholarship was established in by the William R. Hearst Foundation. The fund provides support to African-American graduate students pursuing careers in teaching.
Dr. Anne Marshall Huston Scholarship and Professional Development Fund: The Huston Scholarship was established in 2005 by Dr. Anne Marshall Huston. The fund provides support for graduate students in the College of Education, Leadership Studies, and Counseling.
KOVAR Scholarship Fund: The KOVAR Scholarship was established in 2003 by the Knights of Columbus of Virginia. The fund provides support for graduate students in the College of Education, Leadership Studies, and Counseling who are pursuing degrees in special education.
Tamara E. Lemon '94 MEd Endowed Scholarship in Counselor Education: This scholarship was established in 2021 by Robert Lemon '98 MBA and Tamara E. Lemon '94 MEd. The fund provides support for graduate students in the Counselor Education program.
Lynchburg Life Saving Crew Graduate Scholarship Fund: The Lynchburg Life Saving Crew Graduate Scholarship was established in 2023. The fund provides support for deserving graduate students pursuing degrees in athletic training or PA medicine, with preference given to those who are or have been EMTs or paramedics, or who have volunteered in emergency services or EMS.
Ben Mayhew Endowed Scholarship Fund: The Mayhew Scholarship was established in 2017 in memory of Ben Mayhew '91, '01 MBA. The fund provides support for graduate students in the Master's of Business Administration Program.
P. Buckley Moss Scholarship Fund: The Moss Scholarship was established in 1997 by the Moss Portfolio. The fund provides support to graduate students pursuing degrees in special education, with preference for full-time students studying learning disabilities.
J. Edward Petty Outstanding Graduate Alumni Award & Scholarship Fund: The Petty Scholarship was established in 1996 in honor of Dr. J. Edward Petty. The fund provides support for students pursuing graduate degrees in educational leadership.
Beverly W. Powell Graduate Special Education Scholarship Fund: The Powell Scholarship was established in 2004 by the Beverly W. and Hampton O. Powell Foundation. The fund provides support for graduate students who are pursuing degrees in special education, with preference given in the following order: 1. residents of Altavista and Lynch Station, VA; 2. teachers working in Altavista-area schools; 3. teachers in Campbell County or Pittsylvania County, VA, public schools.
Katherine C. Radford Memorial Scholarship Fund: The Radford Scholarship was established in 2001 in memory of Dr. Katherine "Kitty" Radford. The fund provides support to graduate students pursuing a degree in education, with preference given to those working with students with disabilities or gifted students.
George N. Rainsford Community Partnership Scholarship Fund: The Rainsford Scholarship was established in 1997 in memory of President George N. Rainsford. The fund provides support for minority graduate students with demonstrated financial need majoring in any discipline, and students in the College of Education, Leadership Studies, and Counseling.
Grace B. Richardson Scholarship Fund: The Richardson Scholarship was established in 2003 by Elizabeth Richardson Picardi '60 in memory of her mother, Grace B. Richardson. The fund provides support for graduate students with demonstrated academic merit who are pursuing a degree in education, with preference for those preparing to teach reading. NCB NOTE: $100 each year supports the Paul D. Richardson Award in Sociology; remaining amount supports scholarship.
Martha M. Sheffler Scholarship Fund: The Sheffler Scholarship was established in 2002 by the estate of Martha M. Sheffler '35. The fund provides support for graduate students in the College of Education, Leadership Studies, and Counseling with preference given to those pursuing a master's degree in administration or supervision..
Roger E. Tetrault Veterans Scholarship Fund: The Tetrault Veterans Scholarship was established by Roger E. Tetrault '76 MBA in 2012. The fund provides support for graduate students who are United States military veterans and demonstrate academic merit and/or financial need.
Dr. M. Weldon Thompson Scholarship Fund: The Thompson Scholarship was established by Maury Thompson, Jr. '70 and F. Neal Thompson '62 in honor of Dr. M. Weldon Thompson. The fund provides support for graduate students pursuing degrees in education with preference given to those working in primary, elementary, or secondary schools in the greater Lynchburg area.
Thomas C. Tiller, Jr. Graduate Scholarship in Education Fund: The Tiller Scholarship was established by friends and colleagues to honor the career of Dr. Tiller as alumnus, Dean of Students, and faculty member of the School of Education and Human Development. The fund provides support for students enrolled in the graduate program who earned an undergraduate degree at the University of Lynchburg.
Kimberly Hulligan White '74 Endowed Scholarship: This White Scholarship was established in 2020 by Stephen Crank '73, '74 MBA in memory of Kimberly Hulligan White '74. The fund provides support for graduate students in the DPT and PA programs with good academic standing.
Dannis E. Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund: The Williams Scholarship was established in 2009 by the friends, family, and colleagues of Dannis E. Williams '89, '91 MEd. The fund supports students with demonstrated financial need who are pursuing a master's degree in education with an emphasis on counseling.
Dr. Helen Mundy Witt & Mr. Leroy Witt, Sr. Master of Education Scholarship Fund: This scholarship was established in 2021 by Helena Janelle Clemons in memory of Dr. Helen Mundy Witt '67, '78 MEd, '13 DEd and Mr. Leroy R. Witt, Sr. The fund provides support for a full-time Master of Education student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrated financial need and academic promise, with preference given to an African American/Black student. Second preference given to a student with a University of Lynchburg undergraduate degree. Awarded for 2 consecutive years with stipulation that the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.
